The Targeting Autism Project is partnering the Illinois State Library with The Autism Program (TAP) of Illinois to bring together an impressive group of national and regional ASD experts and advocates, who will help stimulate discussions and provide a platform for creating a statewide collaborative action plan to assist libraries in becoming more welcoming to and supportive of the needs of the ASD population.

The Illinois State Library is currently accepting applications to participate in the Targeting Autism Grant project forums. A total of eighty participants will be selected.  If you or someone you know is passionate about supporting the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) population and believes that libraries in collaboration with a wide variety of advocates have the power to improve the quality of lives of individuals and families impacted by ASD, we invite you participate in this very important initiative.

Submit an application to learn about the many ways libraries can support the large and growing population of all those affected by ASD.  To apply, click: Targeting Autism: A National Forum on Serving Library Patrons on the Spectrum: Application to Participate
Instructions for completing the application form are available at:  Instructions

The “Targeting Autism Illinois Libraries Blog” was created to provide a virtual space for librarians to connect with one another on issues relating to Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and libraries. You are encouraged to use this blog to help each other assist the ASD patron population. Here are a just few ideas to help you develop this blog as a useful resource:

  1. share services and programming that you offer to your patrons with ASDs.
  2. share expertise and resources.
  3. discuss specific issues your library has in serving patrons with ASDs.

Finally, Illinois State Library wants to ensure that all issues, priorities and perspectives are addressed in the Institute of Museum and Library Services(IMLS), National Leadership Grant (NLG) “Targeting Autism: A National Forum on Serving Library Patrons on the Spectrum” Your contributions to this blog are one way to ensure that your voice will be heard at the two upcoming forums.
